Common Solar Panel Issues – Are There Any?

solar panelsHere at mortgageinfocenter.com we like to look at options to reduce your mortgage repayments and some of the best ways to do that is by reducing your expenses. Here we look at solar panel and specifically some of the issues they can have.

When you look at a solar panel for what it is, it’s hard to think there are any issues involved. Primarily, you’ve got a frame (which is typically made of aluminum), and inside the frame there are is a silicone cell/s. Protecting the silicone cell is a thick sheet of glass. So, without any moving parts that need to be oiled every now and again, it’s obvious that solar panels don’t cause any hassles.

Unless you buy a low-quality solar panel, you shouldn’t run into any problems. However, if you look at the bigger picture, there are some common solar panel issues to consider.

1. The Sun Doesn’t Shine All Day

The most common issue when you look at the practicality of a solar panel is that it can only work certain hours of the day. When the sun goes down, it serves no purpose until the next morning.

But this only becomes an issue if you are not storing excess energy harvested throughout the day. In other words, if you are using an on-demand solar panel system, this can be an issue.

2. Some Days Are Tougher Than Others

Even though we know for a fact the sun will make an appearance, its appearance can be shadowed by heavy rain clouds. In fact, any type of shade will make the panels less efficient, meaning you won’t be able to harvest as much power as you like.

Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done about this problem. It’s a matter of waiting it out.

3. It Gets Too Hot

Everyone knows that solar panels are going to flourish in sunny areas. But not many people are aware that too much heat can also decrease the efficiency levels of the panel. This is because solar power is more dependent on the UV rays than anything else.

4. Expensive Equipment

Even though the price of solar panels has dropped tremendously over the years, the equipment that goes with them is still relatively expensive. If you are working on a tight budget, but you want a solar panel system with substance, it can be a difficult situation.

Ultimately, there is no such thing as common solar panel issues. They are so practical and easy to use, chances are you’ll forget they are on top of the roof, delivering free energy to your home. And if you are thinking about installing a few, you are on the smart road to the future.
